(Rockville, MD) Sharon E. Moss, PhD, CCC-SLP, CAE will be the next Executive Director of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation (ASHFoundation), the organization announced today.

Dr. Moss will succeed Nancy J. Minghetti, who retired this year. The President and Chief Research Officer at the American Society of Association Executives Research Foundation, Dr. Moss will become Executive Director of the ASHFoundation as of October 31, 2022.

“I want to express my deep appreciation to the ASHFoundation Board of Trustees for selecting me to lead such a prominent organization, one that supports research across the fabric of the communication sciences and disorders discipline, and by doing so, sparks innovation in that discipline across the career spectrum,” Dr. Moss said. “Ultimately, this impacts the lives of so many by helping individuals communicate effectively.”

“I look forward to engaging with the ASHFoundation’s amazing grantees whose critical research advances care, as well as with its generous contributors, who are so vital to its success.”

Dr. Moss has had an extensive multifaceted career. She started as a high school biology educator and moved on to being a clinical researcher and service-provider in academic, health care, and biomedical research settings; a research administrator; and an association executive.

As ASHA’s research integrity officer, Dr. Moss led research on ethics in education and public practices. Her past volunteer service includes chairing panels, committees, and subcommittees. Most recently, she has served on ASHA’s Board of Directors as Vice President for Standards and Ethics in Speech-Language Pathology.

Beyond ASHA, Dr. Moss has been a member of the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders Advisory Council and has served on the boards of the National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing, as well as the American Heart Association (AHA) Mid-Atlantic Affiliate and AHA-Nation’s Affiliate. Board Certified in Neurogenic Communication Disorders, she is an ASHA Fellow and a Certified Association Executive.

“On behalf of the ASHFoundation, I welcome Sharon as our next Executive Director,” ASHFoundation President Tommie L. Robinson Jr. said. “She is an exemplary leader who brings with her a rich, diverse, and engaged professional background. Given the many challenges and changes facing organizations today, it is reassuring to have as Executive Director someone with Sharon’s wide range of professional experience and accomplishment. We are very confident she will lead the ASHFoundation to many more years of continued growth and success.”
